Through the lonesome dark by Paddy Richardson

A brilliant story of the changes that affect the small community in Blackball, west coast NZ during WW1.  When Pansy becomes pregnant and the father is interred on Soames Island as a "foreigner" she marries another man; only to loose him to the war too. As a miner he helps build the Arras tunnels in France. An amazing story of how WW1 affected ordinary lives, and a small community.
An excellent read.
