I took this
book home on a recommendation of a borrower. It had me hooked at the first
paragraph. Darktown, is a novel based around the 1948 induction of African
American Police Officers. Set in the American South, eight young officers are
soon frustrated at the restrictions placed on them. When a young girl is
murdered on their watch, and the local white police force are not interested in
pursuing it, two young black officers’ start their own investigations. Caught
between the distrust of their own people and the dislike and resentment from
the white officers, the book moves at a fast past. Be prepared to spend some
time on this novel. You will not want to put it down until you finish.
